Las Leyendas-Recommendation by LeonardoFRei Las Leyendas-Recommendation by LeonardoFRei
This last week I found this show called Las Leyendas on Netflix, the first 100% mexican series supported by Netflix

And I got really hooked up on it, given the art tyle and the first couple episodes I took it as a rather childish show, but it turned out to be pretty interesting to watch

Apparently, for what I could gather, is a reimagining of a series of books popular in mexico (that actually spawned a couple of movies on Ntflix as well, tough different from the series)

According to my friends that have american Netflix accounts, there is no dub nor a sub in english by the time I am uploading this, wich is kind of sad, but if you have an account from another country with a dub/sub of it, or actually know the language, I highly suggest giving it a try

The story is basically a boy from the 19th century that can see ghosts, the ghost of a Don Quixote-isk Conquistador, the ghost of a Valley Girl from our current time, a magical being that is really dumb (that could also spit fire on the original but can't on this one sadly), the love interest of the protagonist that may or may not be a witch, and cute skull thingies that I could swear were siblings untill the male one tried to make a move on the female one, flying up throughout time on a flying boat that I have no idea how they managed to get, in order to basically stop a fusion of the Mayan and the Nordic Apocalipse of happening

If you can watch it, either by knwing the language, having access to a sub or dub in another language you understand, or simply by seeing this in the future when they already got a dub/sub, watch it, is good, tough childish sometimes

I'm almost finished with the series. Sometimes the dialogue is cheesy, but I'm really enjoying it!

the childish behavior of the show and some particularly animation scenes can be weird, but the show itself is awesome

In my country, Brazil, Las Leyendas is dubbed in my language (no, it's not Spanish, it's Portuguese), so I decided to watch it.
It's not a great show, but also isn't bad either. It's just good.

Provavlmente

that series is form my country im from mexico and the original idea waas that the boy would travel the country dealing with some of mexico biggest legends and is notorious the mexican influence and some details are missing unless you are from mexico like the magical creature being a alebrije which is a type of mistycal beast who depiction is supossed to be an amalgamation of animal in the case of the series a type of lizard and the valley girl is actually from sapin is the spirit of a girl who story is explained in the original movie i have watched most of the movies but the netflix series i haven´t the chance to see it

They actually explained her story on the series (I don't know much about the movies since the only one I watched was the one about La Llorona because is the only one availeable for me)

I tried to keep it as spoiler free as I could given that I wanted people to go and watch it

Unfortunately for me I know very few about the mexican culture, I could tell Alebrije was a part of the culture, but I didn't know for sure how accurate the portraial was, thank you for informing me :D

I really need to seek out the rest of the movies

I don't know if it is something related to region block or something, but I can only wach La Llorona there, not the other one

and is not because of dubs, because La Llorona has no dub, only sub

its more about the distribution rights

i actually checked here the one about the guanajuato mummys and  is here so maybe it is region locking maybe because the mummys are not like the ones depicted in other medias in this case they are living corpses like zombies and some burned squeletons

Or is just because Brazillian Netflix doesn't have a lot of stuff

that is a fact, it takes forever for something to get here if it gets here

I'm from Mexico and i know the movies and the series. You are correct in your description about the series but allow me to complement a little: all the chapters in the series and the movies are based in legends of Mexico, for example "La Llorona" ("The Women Crying") an ancient tale about a women that is searching her missing sons until this days (Quick fact about this story: the sons died drowned).
Also the cute skulls tha appears sometimes are known as "Calaveritas dulces" or "Calaveritas de azucar", in english that means "Skull Candies"; they are a reference of a tipical candy that we eat in "Día de Muertos" ("Day of the death") when we celebrate and remember our deceased family members.
I hope you enjoy the series and the movies so far and i hope in the future they dub or sub it in more languages.

Have fun :)

Unfortunately the only movie availeable for the Brazillian Netflix is the one about La Llorona, I really want to watch the rest to get the full experience from it given that the series is kind of a "reboot"

Also thank you for the names, I had someone tell me them before, but I completely forgot and only remembered that they were related to the Dia de los Muertos

also explains why Alebrije called their names like flavours in the movie, like Azedo and such if I remember correctly

They ended with a catch

Enough to try and make us hope/ned a second season, but with enough closure so that it doesn't feel like the story didn't actually ended in case they don't get one

I do wish me a second season tough
